Classic title track from Janet's 1997 LP "The Velvet Rope".

rock the boat.

I'm on a classic R&B tangent at the moment.

The late Aaliyah had a vibe about her. Smooth, strong, sexy. She had what a lot of acts nowadays can only dream of having.

Her last self-titled LP is a great work and this single, which she passed away at the ending of the filming of this video in the Bahamas, is a timeless masterpiece.

Aaliyah left us way too soon.

smooth.

So what ever happened to D'Angelo? Dude was runnin things for a minute. Rumors are circulating about a new album coming soon, but I'll believe it when I see it.

For now, we're gonna flashback to 1995 and his debut LP "Brown Sugar" for this self-explanatory selection.

reality.

Nu-soul throwback from 1997 courtesy of Adriana Evans.

"Reality" wasn't released as an official single, but is one of my favorite cuts off her self-titled debut album.

baby luv.

This is the third single from Groove Theory's 1995 self-titled debut album.

Groove Theory is best known for their top-10 single "Tell Me", from the same LP.

i'm the one.

Let's talk Acid Jazz.

Usually, for me at least, when I hear "Acid Jazz" I automatically think of the Brand New Heavies or perhaps Soul II Soul. I'll post some material from both of those groups at a later time.

For now I'm gonna stick with that same early-'90s British Acid Jazz scene. This group is D'Influence. They hail from London, UK and this was their debut single from 1991 "I'm The One".

Definitely pioneers of Acid Jazz and later Nu/Neo-soul and Downtempo music. Overflowing with soul.

feels so real (won't let go).

Some '80s love from Patrice Rushen. Although this track was released in 1984, it has a timeless feel.
